DepartmentCENTRAL EURASIAN STUDIES (BL-CEUS-IUBLA)Department
InformationCentral Eurasia, the home of some of the world's
greatest art, epic literature, and empires, is a vast region of
Europe and Asia, extending from Northern and Central Europe to East
Asia and from Lapland and Siberia to the Himalayas and Persian
Gulf. The Department has long been one of the world's leading
centers of academic expertise on Central Eurasia as well as the
sole independent degree-granting academic unit in its field staffed
with its own faculty of specialists.Job SummaryDepartment Specific
ResponsibilitiesCoordinates administrative, financial, and
operational functions of the Department of Central Eurasian
Studies.Serves as personnel manager for the department and
administrative assistant to the chair.Recommends how department
funds are spent according to fiscal policy and in alignment with
the account purpose.Oversees special events such as the annual
visiting lectures, recruiting events, receptions, cultural
seminars, and departmental newsletters and with attention to donors
and fund raising.Oversees Department budgetary activities, faculty
research accounts, and IU Foundation accounts and ensures
compliance with university and foundation policies and
procedures.Prepares operating and project budget drafts
independently or in coordination with other finance
staff.Reconciles faculty research accounts on a regular basis and
keeps faculty apprised of research fund balances.Serves as a
liaison between department faculty and HLS support services and
alerts faculty to HLS resources.Assists chair and search committee
with faculty searches.Oversees processes related to students and
faculty participating in the AUCA and PKU.Assists faculty with
construction of tenure and promotion dossiers.Assists the Chair and
heads of various departmental committees in preparing for committee
work and generating relevant documents.Manages departments website
and social media accounts and posts updates and news as directed by
Chair.Coordinates the preparation of appointment forms for graduate
assistants, AIs, and hourliesAssists in application process and
enrollment for non-IU students taking CEUS online language
classes.General ResponsibilitiesUsing knowledge and application of
accepted procedures and standards, performs financial and
administrative tasks related to managing the daily and long-term
financial and/or administrative operations of an organizational
unit or an academic, research, and teaching department within a
school or college.Makes recommendations on policies and guidelines
for division/department activities.Monitors expenditures and
statement of accounts to ensure regulatory compliance and fiscal
integrity.Manages general appropriation, endowment, federal and
non-federal grants and contracts, and gift funds.Develops, plans,
and makes recommendations on special projects, which may include
space allocations, staffing, equipment purchases, and long-range
plans.Prepares operating and project budget drafts independently
and/or in coordination with other finance staff.Regularly explains
financial concepts to non-financial employees.Monitors
division/departmental budgets and resolves or recommends
resolutions for any significant deviations from approved
budgets.May conduct a variety of human resources activities
including employment, labor relations, benefits, training, and
classification for unit/department.QualificationsCombinations of
